It doesn’t matter which holidays you observe, or even if you don’t observe the holidays at all, this season can stir our deepest emotions. Thoughts, feelings and beliefs that we have long since buried often rise to the surface of our consciouness during holiday times. The good news is opportunities for profound and meaningful healing arise as well.

Do you find this to a time to be jolly, OR is it a time that you feel fear, loneliness, sadness, anger, abandoned, or whatever emotion is most important for you to become aware of at this time of year. Be true to your feelings, as this is a time that brings forth great potential for transformation and rebirth.

There is an ancient Shinto saying about the winter time “Both Heaven and Earth come from one’s own heart”.

It is a time for darkness to open to the light, a time to really FEEL that which you have held in the shadows, tried to avoid, or been afraid to confront. It is a time to bring these feelings forth, acknowledge them, accept them, honor them, learn from them and move forward into the light of your true self. It is only possible to BE one’s true self by BEing true to yourself. Once we have done this, we can fully experience the joy, peace, love, compassion, good will and comfort that the holiday season is meant to bring us.

If our holidays include gathering with friends and family we may find ourselves more sensitive than normal as cellular emotional memories begin to stir. I believe that the holiday time arouses whatever we most need to heal within the deepest level of our being. This is a perfect time to work with Reiki to awaken repressed emotions, honor them and transform them into positive energy.

Many of us were trained to hold our feelings in. Nice girls don't get angry...big boys don't cry...there were so many ways we learned to block our emotions. If we weren't taught by our parents to do this, perhaps a teacher, or a friend influenced our tendency to repress our feelings.

Over the years of being disloyal to our emotions, we develop congestion in our emotional body, this limits the flow of life force into our physical body. Consquently we can develop physical, mental or emotional illness.

There are some simple steps we can take with Reiki to help this holiday season become a beautiful, personally healing one.

Reiki for Emotional Healing

1. Prepare yourself as you would for any Reiki treatment.

2. State a prayer of intention to be a clear channel for Reiki to flow through and that your personality and ego stand aside. Give thanks that the healing energy flows to you and your guides to help you create a powerful yet gentle, personal healing process.

3. Invoke the distant healing symbol and the mental/emotional symbol with the intention of creating a bridge of light to past holidays, to your family as it was during your childhood and throughout your life. If you have a photo of a holiday gathering, you may wish to hold it, or visually focus on it with gyoshi-ho. When you feel connected activate the power symbol, or some of the Reiki master and Karuna Reiki® symbols. Bring in any energies that you feel guided to work with. Then simply allow the energy to flow.

4. Channel energy and meditate for as long as it feels appropriate, be aware of anything you feel, sense or think. Close your eyes and intend to sense your energy fields. Focus on your heart and imagine a spark of Reiki energy there. Every time you inhale allow the light in your heart to grow brighter and stronger.

When you exhale imagine the light of Reiki expanding out and filling your entire body. Allow the light to flow out into your emotional body. Be aware if you sense any shadows in your aura in the area of your emotional body. These shadows represent repressed emotions, or unhealthy emotional patterns. Simply relax, and breathe Reiki into these areas.

You may wish to also apply direct focus to the mental/emotional symbol to help add more, specifically focused Reiki energy. Our "Breath of Light" CD, may be helpful to you when doing this meditation.

5. When this part of the healing/meditation session feels complete, give thanks to the Divine, your guides, and yourself for sharing in the healing, and acknowledge that the healing will continue. Next invoke the distant symbol with the intention of connecting to all your future holidays and family gatherings. Once connected allow Reiki to flow forward into each situation...lighting your way to joyous, harmonious, loving holidays.Then close the session as you normally do, perhaps with a power symbol.

6. Do this as often as you can. As with all Reiki healing sessions I suggest that you practice this daily for 21 days for the most magnificent results.

In doing healing work like this, our intention is always for the highest good of all. If there are family members who, in the past, you have perceived as difficult, you may find that their behavior has changed. If not, you may find that your response to their behavior is more loving and accepting. When you are with them...remember to breathe Reiki ;)

This year has marked a time of great change and transition for many. It may have come in major shifts in relationships, moves to distant places to live and work, in career direction and livelihood, separations of those most dear and even the departure of loved ones.

These changes, though perhaps unsettling, ignite the flame to reveal new territory and dimensions of who we are. They may invoke the sacred treasures of deep contemplation and the germination of values, meaning and abilities, leading us into the release of extraneous distractions, old tales and perhaps even embracing unchartered potential and embodying a new story for our lives of light and grace.

It is divine timing that we are being lead into the season which brings to us the story of the “virgin birth” of the Christ Child.
This birth is the ultimate act of creation, not based upon logic, rational, history, or any physical evidence of what has been, is or is probable, but rather on what is possible. It is a story of love and the letting go of the masks of separation and all the stories of what could never be.

A miracle is made possible, not through all the things we may do or know, but through innocent perception, the field of the heart and our ability to let go.

A little over a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to hold my father’s hand during his passing. In these last few moments, there was nothing to do, no techniques or practices to employ, no right words to speak…just a pure state of being, a feeling of gratitude and love…that was enough. Anything else or in addition felt like arrogance on my part of trying to change something or make something happen. I was taken into a place which I could not fathom with my mind. In that light of grace, all stories dissolved, of who I was, of who he was, no you, no me, just pure spaciousness and space-lessness, and in that sacred moment, we became apart of all that is.

In the letting go, the birth of the “holy child” may show up as a new feeling state, a new way of perceiving a situation or circumstance, an inspired idea or project or even a new experience of Self as Divinity, seeded solely through the inspiration of the heart.

Choose one story which no longer works for you that you are now willing to let go of. This can look like, “‘I was never artistic.” “I’m not ready yet.” “I don’t have all the skills to go after my dream.” “I’m not good enough.” “I can’t make it on my own.” “That can never be.” “That happened when I was age 5, so I know it will always happen.” Then, let go of the story. Period.

Remember, at any point, if you so choose, you can keep the story alive by re-telling it yourself or to another. And also remember you can choose additional stories to drop, but it is of utmost importance to start with one.

Give yourself the best Christmas present ever. Give yourself the bearing of the “holy child” which expresses itself as a new story ie. A story which may not make any sense whatsoever, have no evidence to back it up, comes into being by pure divine inspiration or feeling.

Then, nurture the story by giving it loving attention, embellishing it with ribbons of joy, sparkling energy, additional chapters and, have a shimmering, shining blast with it.
